We aim to respond to every CNC machining quote UK request within 1 to 2 working days. For straightforward jobs with clear drawings, we're often faster. If your project is time-sensitive, mention it in your message and we'll do our best to prioritise it.

For CNC Turning, Milling and Fibre Laser Cutting we accept PDF, DWG, DXF and STEP files. For laser engraving add-ons, we also accept SVG, EPS, AI and PNG files. If you don't have drawings yet, our CAD design service produces files in DWG, DXF, STEP and PDF — everything needed to go straight into production. If you're not sure whether your file will work, just send it over and we'll let you know.

Lead times depend on the service, the complexity of the job and material availability. As a guide, most orders are completed within 3 weeks. Simpler jobs or repeat orders are often faster. We'll always give you a realistic lead time as part of your quote, and we'll keep you updated throughout production via our order management system.

Yes, our minimum order value is £75. This applies across all our services — CNC Turning, CNC Milling and Fibre Laser Cutting. There is no maximum. Whether you need a single prototype or a large production run, we're happy to discuss your requirements.

For first-time orders, payment is required pro-forma before production begins. For returning customers, we offer credit terms with payment due within 30 days of receiving goods. If you have any questions about payment, just get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss.

Yes. While the majority of our work is for UK-based clients, we do ship internationally. Overseas shipping costs are calculated on a per-order basis and will be included in your quote. If you're based outside the UK and need a CNC machining quote, we'd love to hear from you.

It depends on the service. Our CNC turning capability works with mild steel, tool steel and hardened steel. CNC milling covers a wide range of metals — if we can source the billet, we can machine it. Fibre laser cutting handles mild steel up to 16mm, stainless steel up to 5mm, and aluminium and brass up to 4mm. We can work with customer-supplied stock or source material on your behalf.

Yes. If you have a rough sketch with the key dimensions, our team can work from that. For projects at an earlier stage, our CAD design service takes your concept — sketch, idea or verbal brief — and produces the full technical drawings in Autodesk Fusion 360 before machining begins. It means you don't need a separate drawing office or CAD engineer to get from idea to finished component. A proper technical drawing will always give us the most to work with, but we won't turn you away if you're still at the concept stage.

Practical tolerances vary by process. For CNC turning and milling, we typically work to tolerances of 0.5mm to 1.5mm depending on the geometry and material. Our YCM EV1020A milling machine has a positional accuracy of 0.004mm at the machine level. For fibre laser cutting, edge quality and dimensional accuracy depend on material type and thickness. If your project has specific tolerance requirements, include them in your drawings and we'll confirm feasibility as part of your quote.

Yes. Metamex Engineering is part of the Excell Engineering Group, which holds the Made in Britain certification. Every component we produce is manufactured at our Portsmouth facility by our own team. There are no overseas suppliers involved in your order.
